The Tradition Begins Here! - KYA Recreational Softball

The Recreational Softball program at Keller Youth Association (KYA) has become widely recognized as one of the best and most complete all-around programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The KYA Recreational Softball program has been built upon the following guiding principles:

  • To help our youth develop into better adults through participation in organized sports.
  • To foster an atmosphere focused on FUN, sportsmanship, teamwork, trust and fundamentals.
  • To guide and assist our participants to gain the necessary skills, confidence and discipline to become positive, healthy citizens and role models of the future.

KYA Recreational Softball Program

The KYA Recreational Softball Program is designed to attract as many players in the community, who have a sincere interest in the game, as possible. In our younger leagues we attempt to include every single player who registers to play. Our goal is to give the youngest players in our program an opportunity to gain an interest in the game. We also strive to give them every chance to learn the basic skills the game requires.

As our recreational players advance in age, we still provide an "all inclusive" approach to participation. The privilege of increased participation is earned through attainment of performance levels by conscientious attendance at games and practice sessions, as well as general conduct and development on the playing field.

This organization provides opportunities for athletes playing for the first time to playing multiple seasons.  We start as young as our 6U age group (perfect for Kinder & 1st grades) up through our U15 age group.

FAQ's

Does my daughter have to try out for a team?

No, all girls will be put on a team.  We do have a "Coaches Look" and girls can participate to show off their skills, but they are not required to attend, they will be placed on a team either way. (Dates for Coaches Look will be posted and emailed after registration ends.)

When are games and practices?

KYA coaches are to find their own practice fields. The practice days are for each coach to determine for their team.  No games will be scheduled on Wednesdays or Sundays. We use those days only in case of rainouts.

Can I request my daughter to be on the same team as a friend?

KYA does NOT guarantee that friends will be placed on the same team.  We can not rearrange teams based on friends who would like to play together or because of carpool arrangements.  We only honor requests from families who would like their daughters (whom are sisters) to be on the same team, if it is age appropriate.

What equipment does my daughter need to play softball?

Rubber soled cleats, a softball bat, a glove, a batting helmet WITH a facemask on the front, and if your daughter is a pitcher she has to wear a face mask while pitching for KYA. 8U players are required to wear a facemask while playing infield.

What is the cost for a season and what does it include?

6U -  City of Keller Residents/Non residents- $110

Cost includes uniform and up to 8 games for 6U.

8U, 10U, 12U, and 15U - $175

Cost includes uniform, up to 10 regular season games, and a single elimination playoff tournament in the Spring with the top teams from the spring season. Tournament format will be announced to the coaches prior to the start of season which then will be announced to the players and parents.

What do I need to do if I am interested in coaching a team for KYA?

Anyone who is interested in being a coach should apply during the open registration period by registering in the system as a coach.  The softball commissioners will contact all registered potential coaches for more information during the application and selection process.
